Multicultural Choral Concert 2025
(New Horizons for Seniors Program)提供支持。
Bridging Languages and Cultures: Yangtze River Performing Arts Multicultural Choral Concert Resonates with Unity
On January 11, 2025, the "Multicultural Choral Concert" organized by the Yangtze River Performing Arts concluded successfully at the Fairview Library Theatre in Toronto. The event brought together choral groups from diverse ethnic backgrounds, including Chinese, Italian, Ukrainian, and Latin American communities. Each ensemble performed classic pieces in their native languages and distinctive styles, showcasing the richness and artistic appeal of multiculturalism. The concert received partial funding from the Canadian government’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.
By leveraging choral music as a cultural bridge, the concert established a platform for cross-cultural exchange and strengthened community engagement in Toronto’s multicultural landscape. This event signifies the Yangtze River Performing Arts’ evolution from a promoter of Chinese culture to a proactive facilitator of intercultural dialogue. Through music, the organization not only shared Chinese traditions but also fostered mutual understanding and unity among diverse communities.
The performance received overwhelming acclaim. Each choir performed in their respective languages--Chinese, Italian, Ukrainian, and Latin American melodies—yet the universal language of music transcended borders, creating a harmonious synergy on stage that embodied the spirit of "music without boundaries."
The concert culminated in a joint curtain call by all four choirs, met with a prolonged standing ovation. Beyond an artistic showcase, the event served as a profound cultural dialogue. Many audience members from non-Chinesebackgrounds praised the organization’s inclusive approach, while several cultural groups extended collaboration invitations for upcoming events in February and April.
This concert held historic significance for the Yangtze River Performing Arts. Over the past 29 years, the group has participated in multicultural initiatives; however, this marked its first independently organized large-scale event as the lead organizer—a milestone reflecting expanded responsibilities and organizational growth. The experience gained during this process will inform the planning of its 30th-anniversary celebration.
Currently, the Yangtze River Performing Arts is preparing a special 30th-anniversary performance, aiming to collaborate with even more culturally diverse groups to deepen cross-cultural integration. Its vision extends beyond promoting Chinese culture; it aspires to create a dynamic platform for ongoing multicultural innovation and exchange.

Singing Together 2024
Singing Together is an association of ethnic choirs based in the Great Toronto Area with the purpose of sharing with each other, and with the community at large, once a year our ethnic traditional choral music, and providing an opportunity to perform as a larger choral group.
Since its beginning in 1995, the choir members have been enthusiastic about this concert format because it allows them to assemble a smorgasbord of music from different cultures in one sitting, and experience and learn the music and cultures of others.
Singing Together 2024 This year’s concert took place at St.Paschal Baylon's Church at 92 Steeles Ave. W., Thornhill, ON, on April 27, 2024. The concert was organized and performed by nine (9) choirs from the Great Toronto Area (GTA). The participating choirs include Colorful Voice Choir (Chinese), Cantemos-Upper Canada Choristers (Latin American), Chinese Canadian Choir of Toronto (Chinese), Coro San Marco (Italian), Joyful Singers (Korean), La Petite Musicale of Toronto (Caribbean), Shevchenko Choir (Ukrainian), St. Paschal Bayton’s Church Children Choir (Filipino), and Yangtze River Performing Arts (Chinese).
This year’s concert was purposefully organized with the theme of Canadian peace, unity and multicultural social values. The concert featured three songs sung by all the nine participating choirs: 1) O Canada, 2) This Is My Song and 3) Hands United In Peace.
1st Joint Rehearsal - April 9, 2024
The first all-choirs-participated rehearsal(except for the Children's Choir)took place at St. Paschal Baylon’s Church on April 9, 2024, from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
It was an introductory session to help everyone to get know each other and become familiar with the concert venue. The rehearsal ran through the three songs sung by all participating choirs. Conductor Daniela Colla from Coro San Marco rehearsed the first song O Canada. Conductor Joanna Li from Chinese Canadian Choir of Toronto rehearsed the 2nd song This Is My Song. Conductor Lindy Burgess from La Petite Musicale of Toronto rehearsed the 3rd song Hands United in Peace. Approximately 110 chorists (to be confirmed)participated in the rehearsal. Everyone, including the conductors, was very excited.
2nd Joint Rehearsal (Dress Rehearsal) – April 25, 2024
The second all-choirs-participated rehearsal(except for the Children's Choir)was the dress rehearsal, conducted at St. Paschal Baylon’s Church on April 25, 2024, from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
The rehearsal gave each choir a chance to try out their programs on stage, including testing the microphones, lights and stage space. The rehearsal followed the concert program list order: Coro San Marco (Italian), Colorful Voice Choir (Chinese), La Petite Musicale of Toronto (Caribbean), Shevchenko Choir (Ukrainian), Joyful Singers (Korean), Chinese Canadian Choir of Toronto/Xiao Ping Chorus (Chinese), Cantemos of Upper Canada Choristers (Latin American) and Yangtze River Performing Arts (Chinese). The rehearsal also included practicing entering and exiting the stage. The three songs sung by all the choirs were rehearsed at the end.
There were approximately 150 singers (to be confirmed) present at the rehearsal. The rehearsal was conducted as planned.
The Concert – April 27, 2024
Singing Together has been a long-standing successful chorus festival since 1995. This years concert promoted Canadian peace, unity and multi-cultural social values. It provided opportunities for singers to experience and learn others’ music and cultures. It created a bridge between communities with different cultures and racial backgrounds to connect and enjoy activities of shared interests.
This year’s concert took place at St. Paschal Baylon’s Church on April 27, 2024, at 7:00 PM. The concert attracted approximately 500 (to be confirmed) families, friends, community members and the general public. The concert was a massive success, especially the three all-singers-participated songs. It is worth mentioning that the Jaimacca group’s singing and dance and the Yangtze group’s Cantonese song were very successful, winning big applause. The Children’s choir was sweet and lovely; it was a great joy to see them singing. See the attached Program List.
As the curtains fall, we are excited to anticipate next year's event.

Yangtze River Arts in SPO's 2025 Concert: Chinese Vocals Meet Western Chamber Music"
On February 22, 2025, the annual "East Meets West" concert, hosted by the Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO), was successfully held. As long-term collaborators, Yangtze River Performing Arts and the SPO Women's Choir jointly performed three widely beloved Chinese songs – Gazing at the Moon, The World with So Many Persons and Nine Lotus Lanterns/Weaving a Flower Basket . SPO musicians separately presented masterful chamber music performances. The event continued the concert's core mission of promoting cross-cultural understanding while enhancing community cultural exchange through artistic cooperation.
As a hallmark program of the SPO performance season, "East Meets West" has consistently served as a platform for musical and cultural dialogue. Having participated in this series for multiple consecutive years, Yangtze River Performing Arts collaborated once again with the SPO Women's Choir this year. Through adaptations of Chinese folk and popular songs, their performance stood in artistic dialogue with Western chamber music presentations, exploring harmonious resonance between Eastern and Western musical elements while preserving distinct artistic identities.
